Hoodia is a genus of 13 Apocynaceae family of flowering plants, and it is a traditional African plant that has long been used by African tribesmen to reduce hunger during long hunting trips. What made Hoodia famous is the compound P57, which was first isolated back in 1977, which was found to have appetite suppressing effects. One study performed on glucomannan involving 200 obese subjects found that after 16 weeks of treatment with Glucomannan, the participants had lost an average weight of 4.52kg compared to only 0.79kg for the control group. This study also found that LDL cholesterol was reduced, and no side effects were reported.
