How to Stay Motivated to Burn off the Fat
For a fat loss program to succeed, several things must be in place. 1) You must have a good diet and nutrition program, that is not too restrictive, easy to follow, and will create a slightly calorie deficit to help you lose weight. 2) You must have a good strength training program in place to help you build some lean muscle mass, one of the best ways to increase your metabolism, and burn off body fat naturally. 3) You need to setup regular cardio training sessions - keep it short, and intense, and the best time is to do it first thing in the morning right after you wake up. 4) Finally, you need to be motivated - not just for the first week, but for the entire duration of your fat loss journey. You need to find ways to keep yourself motivated, even when you're not seeing the results you hope to see. There are certain things you can do to help you stay motivated to burn of the fat.
Keep measurements to stay motivated, and I don't just mean using the weight scale. You need to take weekly measurements - set a designated day of each week, say every sunday, to record your measurements. By measurements, you need to include 3 different sets of recordings: 1) using the weight scale, 2) using a measure tape to take measurements of your body, and 3) using some type of fat caliper to record your body fat percentage. By using a combination of these 3 recording methods, you will be able to keep an accurate gauge of your fat loss progress.
If you were to only use the weight scale, you might find that you are making good progress at losing weight the first few weeks where you see slow, but consistent weight loss. However, after a few weeks, you might find that your weight loss has stalled, and become discouraged and lose your motivation because you are not making any progress.
However, if you were using all three measurement methods as we mentioned here, you might actually find that after several weeks of slow weight loss, your body weight might seem to hold steady on the scale, but that your body size measurements are decreasing, such as waist size still decreasing, arms and thigh measurements are also decreasing, and you also find that your body fat percentage has decreased as well. Wouldn't that keep you motivated? The weight scale is not the best measure of fat loss progress, but a combination of the three different measurement methods.
How's that for motivation? Even though your body weight doesn't seem to be changing on the weight scale, but finding that your body fat is decreasing, and that your body size measurements are decreasing at the same time can be very motivating. Other less tangible assessments of progress such as your physical well-being, and how good your feel about your overall health and fitness are also good ways to stay motivated. If you are feeling better, feel that you have more energy, and have a increased fitness level due to your fat loss efforts, remind yourself that these less tangible ways of tracking progress are also great ways to stay motivated to burn off the fat.
