7 Tips on Staying Motivated to Reduce Body Fat
1) Take before, in between, and after pictures of yourself. Take some pictures of yourself starting on day one. If you don't like the way the extra body fat looks on your body, make a few print copies and post it on your desk and walls. If you spend a lot of time in front of a computer screen, make it your desktop background - a constant remind of what you want to change. Take weekly photos, and compare the photos you take from week to week, and see the changes you've made so far.
2) Make it a lifestyle - make changes to your lifestyle that includes eating clean and healthy, and make regular exercising a part of your lifestyle. Do not feel that following your diet, or having to exercise regularly is a chore, it is not, and it should never be. Enjoy every minute of it, because with time, you'll find that it has become an essential part of your healthy living.
3) Set realistic goals - setting sky high goals will only set you up for failure and disappointment. Set modest goals that you can achieve, and set new goals once those goals have been achieved. Remind yourself that it take time and effort to reduce your body fat, and that there is no quick solution. Aiming for a one to two pound fat loss per week is a healthy target, setting a goal of losing 10 pounds a week is not.
4) Don't go it alone. Get someone in a similar situation to partner up with you - to motivate each other, and to keep each other on track. The contributions of a training partner with similar goals are invaluable. Just make sure you return the favor.
5) Give yourself a free day every week where you can eat whatever you want for relaxing and enjoying the foods that you love - within reason of course. Staying a on diet can be difficult at times, and we all need a little time off to relax and recharge.
6) Think of old age and health. Do you want to be mobile, independent, and healthy when you are in your golden years? Or do you want to be in poor health, and unable to enjoy life with your children and grand children as you would like? For many people, it's tough to think so far ahead, but thought of being bedridden should be enough to motivate you to reduce your body fat and change your lifestyle for the better. It certainly is one of the biggest motivating factors for me.
7) Look in the mirror often. Sometimes that's all you need for a little motivation.
Motivation is one of the most important aspects of a successful fat loss program - whether you are able to reduce body fat depends on your diet and exercises, but it also largely depends on how motivated you are to follow through with your fat loss program. You will not make much progress if you are not motivated to maintain your diet, or go workout in the gym. When you're not feeling the desire to keep up with your fat loss program, think of any of the above tips to help you stay motivate to reduce your body fat.
